I hope that the information on this web site has served as a useful introduction, but if you're serious about getting a Newfie, it's only the beginning. Here are some Newfoundland dog web pages that I have found useful and interesting.

Information On Evaluating Breeders And Selecting A Puppy

If you only consult one source, this should be the one: the Newfoundland Club of Northern California publishes a detailed, printable Puppy Buyer's Guide in PDF format.

The same club publishes an informative discussion of the risks of buying a puppy over the internet: Read this Before You Buy a Puppy Online.

Purchasing a Pet - Websites and On-Line "Puppy For Sale" Sites: An excellent - and sometimes frightening- discussion of the hazards of buying a puppy on-line.

"I Know Their Tricks" - Make sure to visit this page and read it carefully. The author goes into great detail on things to watch out for and questions that will help you identify responsible breeders and rip-off artists.

A witty and informative warning by a noted Newfoundland breeder: Untangling Webs: Finding a Newfoundland Puppy.

You'll definitely want to read this: How To Read A Puppy Warranty/Guarantee.

There's plenty of useful information about picking out a puppy on the Columbia River Newfoundland Club web page, but the language often gets confusingly technical, and the layout is just plain hard on the eyes. Is there an editor in the house?

This informative discussion in a Rottweiler forum, Identifying the Responsible, Ethical Breeder, is equally applicable to Newfies.

A lengthy and detailed list of questions to ask: Choosing A Breeder.

Here's a reprint of the funny-sad The Backyard Breeders' and Puppy Millers' Big Book of Old Excuses, which can be found all over the net.

General Information

The NewfNet discussion forum is the best place around for getting to know the breed- a friendly (usually) online hangout for Newfie people.

The Newf Friends blog, run by a Canadian volunteer group, is relatively new, but already appears to be an excellent source of information, with a particular emphasis on Newf Rescue.

Capriccio Farms- this breeder's page has an incredible wealth of information about selecting and caring for a Newfoundland dog. An outstanding resource!

A useful page from two Canadian Newfie lovers : "Is The Newfoundland Right For You?"

Interested in the origin of the breed? The AKC Newfoundland History page has a brief summary.

Do you have kids? Grandchildren? Do the neighbors' kids ever come by? Before you get a Newfie, make sure to read The Nana Image, a thought-provoking discussion of Newfs and kids.

An inspiring story: Gander, The Heroic Newfoundland Dog. (Many, many links, and some ads.)

Want to watch Newfies at work andplay? Check out the amazing video selection at Newfie Flix.

The breeder's page from Chekrdflags Newfoundlands & Great Pyrenees has a great deal of important information and many useful links.

This is not intended to be a complete or exhaustive list of Newfoundland liks. There are other sites out there, and undoubtedly some good ones I've missed. If you know of others you think should be added, or if you encounter a dead link, please drop me an email.
